Gigi Hadid co-hosted the American Music Awards with Jay Pharoah. She did an impersonation of the new first lady Melania Trump complete with her Slovenian accent. This did not sit well with a lot of people and haters came at her on Twitter.

Because of this, the 21-year old Maybelline endorser apologized in a handwritten note before posting it as per Huffington Post. She said she was honored to host the AMA's and worked with some of the most respected writers in the business. She removed or changed anything in the script that took the joke too far. What remained was done in good humor and no bad intentions. She added that she too have been the center of comedy skits on national tv. It poked fun at her but she was able to find humor in it. She believes Melania understands how show business works. She apologized to anyone whom she had offended. She only had the best wishes for the country.

Apparently, not everyone accepted her apology. Some said she should be ashamed as her parents were also immigrants who came to the United States. Others claim she's nothing but a spoiled rich brat who wasn't really sorry about what she did, she only wanted to protect her income. Some haters said they would never support any product endorsements that has her in them. However, there are those who feel Gigi was very funny and that people should just calm down. It was a joke, people got mad, Gigi apologized, move on. The Obamas had to deal with far worse criticisms in the past eight years. Some were just totally vicious.

Pharoah on Hadid's Defense

Her co-host Jay Pharoah defended her in Facebook on Monday. He compared it to the horrible names slung at Obama during her time. Melania was being treated better, apparently. He said over the past eight years Michelle Obama has been a victim of excessive slurring. She's been called an Ape, Gorilla, Monkey, Manish, Ugly, Disgusting, "Not fit to be in the White House". She was always physically attacked and nobody really snaps about it. He said what they did at the AMA's was exaggerated what actually happened. Here Melania clearly plagiarized because that was the joke. They did not call her ugly, mannish, or anything. He doesn't understand why people just lost it.
