"Mass Effect Andromeda": Two New Races Detailed

Mass Effect Andromeda is Bioware's new offering in the Mass Effect lineup. The new game doesn't follow the events of Commander Shepard, and instead fulcrums itself around new characters.

Mass Effect Andromeda's journey starts after humanity, along with a couple of Council Races, have built massive Arks for leaving the Reaper-infested Milky Way, into its closest neighbor: the Andromeda galaxy in search of a new home.

The new game pushes the new lore, and also keeps enough pointers to the past lore to make older gamers feel they are moving on familiar territory. The journey takes 600 years, during which the player is in cryo-sleep.

Among other surprising flora and fauna that will be available around the massive systems of Andromeda, Bioware has unveiled two new races inhabiting the galaxy. One of these is a malevolent race, and the other is a peaceful ancient guardian race. These two races go by the name of Kett and Remnant.

Since the Arks were made by Council Races, expect to see recurring races like the Turian, Salarian, Asari and Krogan. There might also be some non-council races finding refuge in the massive ships, including Quarian, Batarian and Drell.

Mass Effect's main claim to fame is its engaging story, and this time around Bioware ensures fans that the story would be having great depths. Bioware wants to ensure the best feedback from fans, since its hiccup with the Mass Effect 3's ending which left many a fan (including me) salty.

The new hero, simply known as Ryder, is presumably the commander on the Tempest, a ship equivalent to the Normandy. As usual, there would be both a male and a female Ryder, and it has been hinted that the two would be siblings. Moreover, the story dynamics return, with greater emphasis on loyalty missions and budding relationships.

The new game would also shed some light on Ryder's family, as the siblings, along with their father would be present in the game. The two siblings can interact with each other, Bioware says. Also, a new squad member from an Andromeda race is included in the game, to enable players to understand the galaxy through a newcomer's eyes.

Mass Effect Andromeda drops in 2017. Get your omni-tools ready!
