Any update on Michael Schumacher's health is difficult to come by considering the media blackout his family ordered for. While details about his health remain elusive, the popular Formula 1 driver recently made news in Sept. 2016 after a German publication reported that he can start walking a couple of steps with the help of his therapist.
The news proved to be completely false as Schumacher's lawyer Felix Damm filed a case against the German publication. His family also threatened that they will sue anyone spreading false health reports of the star.
In fact, Gerd Kramer, a close associate of the Schumacher family and former head of sports marketing at Mercedes told Daily Star, "He is in more than difficult situation, and it would take a miracle for to see him in public again."
Meanwhile, Schumacher's wife Corinna has requested media and fans not to intrude into their private lives.
Schumacher had suffered a near-fatal injury during a skiing holiday with his family in December 2013. Reports suggest that he was with his son Mick when the accident occurred.
Schumacher suffered traumatic brain injury leading to paralysis as a result of the accident. He was initially put into a medically induced coma for six months from Dec. 2013 to June 2014. Once he regained his consciousness in June 2014, he was then transferred from the hospital to a rehabilitation facility in Lausanne, Switzerland for further treatment. In September of the same year, his family got him home to continue his recovery with a full medical team.
Reportedly, special care for Schumacher is estimated to reach $150,000 a week. The extensive amount of care that Schumacher requires includes round-the-clock supervision and physical rehabilitation.
