Canelo Alvarez Vs Amir Khan Rematch Deprives Gennady Golovkin Of Title Shot

WBC middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez and Amir Khan will finally get it on at the newly built T-Mobile Arena with a lot of curious spectators eagerly awaiting the aftermath of the bout. It is no secret that most people are more concerned on what happens next than a big upset on the part of Khan. The British fighter is facing tall odds against the champion as he fights two weight classes heavier against a seasoned Mexican Brawler who is obviously comfortable in that class.

Though many look at Khan’s agility and speed as weapons he could use to pull off a historic upset, it may take more than that to stun the rising Mexican fighter. Some are leaving some ray of hope on Khan who is confident of his chances against Alvarez.

"I'm not going to be thinking I'm stronger than Canelo, but I'm going to stand with him and fight with him. I think my skills in this fight will win me the fight... I don't think that Canelo's experienced speed with combinations and speed with power,” says Khan via Sky Sports.

The camp of Alvarez on the other hand are not taking Khan lightly. They are aware of what Khan can do and at the top of it all is his hand speed. Seeing however that he was forced to move up and add weight leaves a bit of apprehension on the speed factor that many see as his advantage.

Looking closely is the man who Alvarez could likely face next – Gennady Golvokin. Triple G is coming off a successful voluntary fight against Dominic Wade, another KO registered to his credit. He is expected to be the next one lined up for Alvarez though there are issues that remain.

That includes an agreement on the set catchweight which Alvarez has reiterated should be at 155 lbs. The WBC is not expected to recognize the stipulation which Golovkin is of course not likely to agree on as well.

But other than that, there seems to be another obstacle on the horizon with word that a rematch clause is allegedly in place. Such was confirmed no less by Eric Gomez, the SVP of Golden Boy promotions.

“It’s confidential. I can’t talk about it, there is a non-disclosure. But there is a rematch in there,” says Gomez via Boxingscene.com.

If so, this could be bad news for Golovkin and likely a ploy to thwart a potential collision between Golovkin and Alvarez and is likely to raise a howl from the Golovkin camp and some boxing pundits.

Should he win, Khan mentioned he is not afraid to face Golovkin next and defend the WBC title per reports.
