Why EpiPens Are Important: Allergies Can Kill You

By Brian McNeill | Update Date: Apr 29, 2016 04:20 AM EDT

Allergies are handled in different ways but there will be instances when they do get out of hand. These are of course the extreme cases when such could lead to possible life-threatening scenarios. Thankfully there is an injection that can address all that though such should be made with proper prior medical consultation.

EpiPens or (Epinephrine injection) could be a life changer, auto-injectors that contain a single dose of epinephrine that is normally injected into the middle of a person’s outer thigh. They are emergency treatments for life-threatening allergic reactions but are meant as emergency supportive therapy only.

It should be noted as well that dosage could vary. Such would need the proper medical support meaning only a certified healthcare professional can give additional doses for a single anaphylactic episode.

While it was meant to address allergies, there are also constraints. Such is applicable to people with heart conditions or for people taking in medications to address cardiac-related symptoms. This is because there is a chance that injecting EpiPen could render more problems than resolution.

If not tied up with potentially worsening conditions, it could also leave dire side effects which may last longer.

Among the possible side effects include increase in heart rate, stronger or irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea or vomiting, difficulty breathing, paleness, dizziness, weakness, shakiness, headache, apprehension, nervousness or anxiety. Rest could help the side effects go faster though the best route is to seek a doctor’s opinion.

This is an ideal solution for people suffering from allergies though necessary precaution is a must. Folks who have minimal issues tied up with allergies should consider themselves lucky though one never knows when the need may arise.

People who carry minimal allergies may want to make sure by seeing a doctor as well, knowing possible allergy attacks which may be hard to pin down or strike at times with people having no knowledge on the reason why.

Below are some of the common allergic reactions that folks may fall prey to:

  1. Change in weather (i.e. sun or humidity)
  2. Eye drops
  3. Food (i.e. seafood)
  4. Hair Dye
  5. Insect bites
  6. Mouthwash
  7. Pets
  8. Pollens
  9. Pollution
  10. Skin irritation caused by make up
  11. Stress
