Filipino Healthy Eating Habit

Just like most countries, the Philippines has it fine share of cuisines. That ranges from meats all the way down to veggies, recipes that could be a surprise for anyone’s taste buds.

Cooking is something that Filipinos of different descents can be proud of. For every region in the Philippines, there is something exotic as far as special meals are concerned. While there are some recipes that many would be befuddled of, one would be surprised at the exquisite taste that these special Filipino dishes have to offer.

As everyone knows, healthy eating would normally lead to the consumption of fruits and vegetables plus a mix of fish of chicken to go with some herbs and spices. Going over the meals that a Filipino can cook, there is simply too many to mention.

At the top of it all is of course vegetables. Among the leading veggies that are used in Filipino meals include that of the leafy kind that includes cabbage, river spinach and sweet potato tops. From the list alone, one can get proper amounts of nutrition like fiber, potassium, calcium and iron.

Bitter melon is another type that is commonly called as “Ampalaya”. It is the edible part of a Momordica charantia plant that is usually recommended to people suffering from diabetes. As its name connotes, it offers a bitter taste.

As a meal, it is sometimes offered mixed with eggs and shrimp or beef/pork while others opt to prepare it as side dish to the main course. For some, sautéing or stewing it with shrimp is also done.

A good partner is normally fish. Filipinos love to consume fish as well and pairing it with Bitter melon or other popular veggies accounts for one good (and full?) meal depending on one’s appetite.

Aiding that mix is of course rice. Though its health benefits could be up for debate, it all depends on how much rice a person would consume. Normally it would be advised to consume one cup of rice for weight-watching purposes though such could be hard when one sits down and tastes it.

The same kind of stewing is applied to cabbage, river spinach or even squash, something that could be a main or side dish depending on how one consumes it.

Again, there are simply too plenty to mention but surely the Filipino prides itself as one of the best cooks in the world that needs no popularity contest to make them stand out.
