A New Company to be Formed by Johnson & Johnson and Google

Google is collaborating with Johnson & Johnson to form a new company called Verb Surgical that is aimed at making systems that are robot-assisted that would provide faster, smarter and advanced systems. On Thursday, J&J made an official announcement about the company's formation called Verb Surgical Inc. The tools that the company will make will reduce the cost of healthcare and improve its standards, making it accessible to all people. Google's research unit that was called Google Life Sciences was renamed to Verily Life Sciences LLC, soon after their partnership with J&J was announced, reported TV Newsroom.

The robotic systems that is being globally is extremely large, almost as big as a compact sized car. To be able to use these systems, the surgeons have to sit at least 10 feet away from the patient to operate a control panel and to carry out the procedures, said Gary Pruden, global chairman of J&J's medical devices group. He said that the robots that Verily will produce will be 20% of size of the machines being used today. This will allow the doctors to operate in closer proximity to the patient. Pruden also added that the overall cost of healthcare will be reduced with these new tools, as per TV Newsroom.

In a press release, J&J revealed that the new CEO of the company will be Scott Huennekens. 'I'm very excited about the possibilities that we can realize through our new surgical solutions company, said Scott Huennekens, President and CEO, Verb Surgical. An independent company has been formed by J&J and Verily Life Sciences LLC, earlier known as Google Life Sciences to help develop next generation robot assisted tools for the surgeons. These tools will not replace the human surgeosn but will equip them with the tools from Ethicon to perform least invasion procedures. The production may start soon, as reported by TV Newsroom.
