Three Reasons Why Sleeping Close to Your Phone Wrecks Your Health
According to a recent survey, around 44 percent of the cell phone owners sleep with their phone next to their bed to make sure they didn't miss any crucial calls or texts. The intentions might be good, but here are three reasons why snuggling with the phone could be hazardous to health.
Pillow could catch fire
A Texas teen was recently in the news. Reason? She woke up to a burning smell of her Samsung Galaxy S4 which was under her pillow. The phone had partially melted scorching her sheets and mattress.
Although it was more specifically a case of non-Samsung replacement phone battery, but still you should bar yourself from using phone in bed.
2. It keeps us awake
Cell phones and other gadgets with screen, give off a type of blue light that might inhibit the production of the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin and disrupt our circadian rhythms. It may be because the emitted blue light emits wavelength similar to daylight which makes our body think it's daytime, at anytime.
Researchers advise powering down all electronics two hours before bedtime.
3. Health risks of cell phones are scary
In 2011, World Health Organization had warned that using phones for more than recommended duration may be possibly carcinogenic to humans, especially in children whose scalps and skulls are thinner than adults' and more vulnerable to radiation.
Previously studies also suggested that cell phones give off small doses of electromagnetic radiation. Though these radiations are perfectly safe to handle, taking a precaution is advisable.
