There could be several reasons why "Winds of Winter," the much awaited book of writer George R.R. Martin is getting delayed. A latest fan theory looks at a fresh reason on why the author is yet to complete it, as well as linking it to the popularity of  "Game of Thrones" on HBO.

Possible Causes Of Delay In "Winds of Winter" Release

A fan posted a theory on Reddit that the publisher tried to keep track of Martin's timeline of work earlier. However, the fan feels that with the growing popularity of "Game of Thrones," that power has diminished to some extent.

Initially, it seems the author wanted to have two battles in his "A Dance with Dragons." But, since "Winds of Winter" was taking too long to complete, the publishers requested Martin to shift one of the battles to his next book. The same fan suggested that it was done to get leverage from the rage created by the premiere of "Game of Thrones."

But the delay can be also because ever since the book was launched, Martin has not been able to complete "Winds of Winter," since he had other commitments like his works on Westeros, his tight tour schedule and his writing assignments for the television series.

Popularity Of HBO Series Could Have Resulted In Delay Of "Winds of Winter"

With the immense popularity of "Games of Thrones," the author's fee could have gone up substantially. So, the publishers may not have much power to provide the necessary incentives to Martin for complete his book fast.

It is not as if the said fan has a grudge towards Martin's well deserved success. The fan just wanted to point out that the publishers may not be in a position now to compel him to complete the book fast.

The upcoming season of "Game of Thrones" will have seven episodes in total. This is a sharp decline as opposed to its usual 10-episode season, TV Guide wrote. HBO has finally declared that the series will return for its seventh installment on Sunday, July 16.
