You really can have too much of a good thing. Everyone has experienced a hug that started well but ended up uncomfortable because it was a bit too firm and lasted too long. At some point, it is no longer a good thing. It is decidedly a bad thing, and possibly one worth reporting. A person's good intentions don't make their actions ultimately good. A person with the good intention of just helping out might actually get in the way and prove to be unhelpful. A little help was good. Too much of it is bad.

It is possible to have too long of a vacation. If you have done a fair amount of travel, you have had the experience of wanting to return home before the vacation was over. You got too much sun, did too much shopping, ate too much rich food, and spent too much money. By the time it was over, you needed a vacation from your vacation. That will never go down as one of your best experiences. Doing anything to excess is never a good thing. Sometimes, we forget that even good things can become bad things as with the following:

Your Favorite Drinks

When you are at a social gathering or bar, how many of your favorite mixed drinks do you have if you are driving home? Of course, the answer is none. One's too many for the road. What about when you're at home? It might come as a surprise to you that you can actually have your favorite mixed drinks at home. You can get bottled mixed drinks to have in the comfort of your own home whenever you like. Now, how many can you have? Since you don't have to drive home, you can have as many as you can responsibly drink.

For many, it is hard to know how much they can have before it is no longer responsible. Psychology Today has released some guidelines for what it means to drink responsibly. Here are three:

  • Know how much alcohol you're using.

  • Don't mix alcohol with other psychoactive substances or prescription drugs.

  • Avoid driving or other dangerous activities if you're using alcohol.

  • Watch out for exagerated reactions and anger issues symptoms while intoxicated

The entire list is worthy of consideration. Remember that these are just guidelines and might slightly differ from other guidelines you find. It doesn't matter what professional standard you use. Just be sure to use some recognized standard so that your favorite drinks at home don't become too much of a good thing.

Vitamins and Minerals

Did you know you could have too many minerals? Balance is required for everything the body needs. Vitamins and minerals are in a similar category as medicine. You would just start taking medicine in random quantities without consulting with your doctor. If you have a slight vitamin D deficiency, the response is not to start taking 5 pills a day until it is where it needs to be.

You also need to be aware of having too little of a good thing like vitamins and minerals. Some salts can actually be good for you. Vegetarians often go too far and eliminate all protein from their diet. This is not a good recommendation on the best dietary science we have. Don't just assume a thing is good or bad as it relates to your health. Rather. Consult with a physician and get advice from a professional about the balance your body needs.

Exercise

Most of us are not in any danger of getting too much exercise. Just know that you can.And it isn't that hard to do. If your exercise mantra is "no pain, no gain", you are very likely to overdo it. Good exercise does not need to be painful to be effective. It will raise your heart rate and make you sweat. It will get you tired. But it shouldn't leave you feeling like you need a doctor. You also need to be careful about starting an exercise regimen if you have known issues with your heart, breathing, or joints. As with vitamins, you should consult with your doctor so that your exercise doesn't become a bad thing.

There is nothing wrong with a good drink, supplements, and exercise. In fact they are good things. Keep them that way by using moderation and good judgement.
