NBA Trade Rumors: Will In-Form Cleveland Cavaliers Go For Mavericks' Deron Williams To Support Kyrie Irving?

Cleveland Cavaliers, the defending NBA champions, have made a terrific start to their 2016-17 campaign with 11 wins and just two losses and are at the top of the Eastern Conference table at the moment.

The Cavs' performance hasn't really been surprising but what has really impressed is that they are consistently doing well sans a primary back-up to their star point guard, Kyrie Irving.

The veteran LeBron James has rose to the occasion and he is doing it in style. But as the league inches towards the playoffs, the Cavs will be thinking more about a proper back-up to Irving and if the report of Cleveland.com's Joe Vardon is to be believed, the defenders are interested to get Dallas Mavericks' Deron Williams to do the job for them. The 32-year-old NBA All-Star had re-signed his contract with the Mavericks this season and will be available on December 15. Orlando Magic's DJ Augustin is another probable name Vardon mentioned but he, too, was signed this summer and will be available after mid-December.

Williams is part of a team which is doing the worst in this league (2 wins, 12 losses; almost the reverse of the Cavs) and might be on the cards for a trade. Magic is doing better but not much.

According to a Bleacher Report article, the Cavs can use a 2017 first-round pick for a possible trade even though they are short on "young disposable talent".

Cleveland Cavaliers, anyhow, have to find a permanent solution. Last year, it was Mo Williams who made up for Matthew Dellavedova's slump in form. Williams has retired this year while Dellavedova has gone to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Cavs now require fresh shoulders to bank on, especially when it comes to opponents like Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks or Los Angeles Lakers.
