How The iPhone SE Silently Dominates Smartphone Market

The iPhone SE is Apple’s answer to the growing question on price and size. Buyers are aware that Apple’s line of products don’t come cheap and was one of the reasons seen why most opted for mid-range offers from the Cupertino company’s brand rivals.

To date, the iPhone SE is seen as the successor to an old budget-friendly iPhone variant, the iPhone 5c. It retains the smaller 4-inch LCD display along with reasonable specs which can be purchased for about $399.

Obviously, the variant is aimed at the ones who have been yearning to own an iPhone on a budget. Regions like China and India were prime targets and so far the response seems to be overwhelming. In fact, current iPhone SE sales indicate that Apple could hit 30 million units sold over the initial forecast which was only about 10 to 20 million units.

“We're thrilled with the response that we've seen on it. It is clear that there is a demand there even much beyond what we thought. That is really why we have the constraint that we have,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Word about that would be relieving for the Cupertino company who plans to recover from first-year-over-year declines since 2003. The jacked up numbers are proving that the iPhone SE is indeed a hit but at the same time be hurting another device in the iPhone 6s.

“The SE strength, overall demand weakness and our anecdotal work implies the SE is stealing 6S demand in developed markets," Nomura analyst Jeffrey Kvaal said in the report. "We believe the SE is reaching its intended market, first-time buyers in China."

Price and the fact the iPhone SE is new are obvious factors, two focal points that the iPhone 6s will have to deal with. Then again, it may not only be the iPhone 6s line that needs to be monitored. Remember that Apple is expected to release an iPhone 7 by September and its performance will be measured as well.

Rumors continue to come in on what the iPhone 7 will have to offer though many are still sticking to the belief that it will be limited. Enhancements include a new chip, larger storage and an alleged dual-lens camera with Apple believed to be holding back major design revisions for the iPhone 8 set for 2017.

With these points for consideration, Apple is in a see-saw state which is only normal given their line of products. Add to the fact that there are other brands in play leaves Apple plenty to think about.
