Sex Education Manual Breaks Taboo

A controversial sex education manual has been released by India's Ministry of Health. The manual showcased a progressive attitude towards homosexuality, despite homosexual intercourse treated as illegal in India.

CNN published a video referring to the latest sex education material released in India for teenage students.  The manual is to be used as a sex education material for teens and depicts that is normal and okay to have feelings for someone of the same sex. The sex education notice serves as a guidance for teens on homosexuality, a taboo in India.

Homosexual intercourse is considered illegal by Indian law. The sex education book runs counter to this law. The sex manual has also been released despite having six states in India banning sexual health education. India's Health Secretary C.K Mishra even spoke at the launch on the manual and expressed his thoughts on how this manual can change lifestyles and become a huge contribution to the sex education of young teens and adults in India.

In similar news, Independent UK reports how a large majority of British children should be taught about pornography and sexting in schools. This idea was the result of a poll of 2,000 adults. Seventy-five percent of this sample expressed the positive impacts of having their children thought about the impact of pornography in schools while 7 percent opposed to the move.

The survey also revealed that 71 percent of the respondents would also want lessons on sexting to be discussed in school. Meanwhile, 86 percent of those surveyed thinks sexual consent should also be thought in school while 82 percent believes that lessons that cover about violence and abuse in relationships should be included in sexual education classes. The survey was commissioned by the charity Plan International UK and carried out by Opinium.

Although Western countries have a bolder point of views when it comes to sex education, India's move to release a new sex education book elaborating on a taboo that is currently being observed in the country is indeed a progressive attitude towards sex education and sexual health in the country.
