Rihanna Awarded Humanitarian Of The Year By Harvard University; Details Here

Singer Rihanna will be taking the stage at Harvard University next week to receive the Humanitarian of the Year Award for her efforts in helping people in different parts of the world. The "Work" singer was given the award for her active participation in helping people especially through health and education.

Rihanna is known to build a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment facility center in her native land Barbados. The center is built in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown. She has also put up a Clara and Lionel Foundation Scholarship program for students in the Caribbean countries so they can attend colleges in the United States. The program was named after the singer's grandmother and grandfather.

Rihanna is Harvard's Humanitarian Of The Year

Rihanna also supports an initiative program, which advocates on having equal access of education in about 60 developing countries, called the Global Partnership for Education. In an official statement by Harvard Foundation director S. Allen Counter, the institution recognizes the pop singer for unceasing to projects in extending help in countries where there is a dire need of health and education programs.

Rihanna Joins Roster Of Awardees

Upon receiving the award, Rihanna will join the roster of Harvard University-recognized humanitarians like Nobel Peace Prize Committee chairman Thorbjørn Jagland and tennis player and civil rights activist Arthur Ashe. Also included in the list of Humanitarian Awardees in the past are previous Secretary Generals of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, Kofi Annan, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, and Javier Pérez de Cuélla and gender advocate Malala Yousafzai from Pakistan.

Notably, a GQ report revealed that Malala, who was the first woman who received the award in 2013, is one with Rihanna in campaigning for the rights of women and children. Rihanna is set to receive the award at Sanders Theatre in Harvard University on Feb. 28, 4pm, Harvard News reported.
