NBA Trade 2017 Latest News & Update: Dallas Mavericks Join Chase For Jahlil Okafor

Jahlil Okafor’s fate on or before the Feb. 23 NBA trade deadline is on with teams being added with each passing day. After the Chicago Bulls and the New Orleans Pelicans, the Dallas Mavericks are the latest team to be tied up to the 21-year-old center. Other teams which reportedly had interest include the Denver Nuggets and the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Mavericks had expressed interest before on Jahlil Okafor and critics believe that Dallas could be revisiting that option before the Feb. 23 NBA trade deadline. But like other teams, what can the Mavs offer for the sophomore player? Guards or shooters are what the Sixers need but Dallas doesn’t seem to have much to offer. Future picks are out of the question since the Mavericks are hoping to infuse young blood to an aging roster.

It seems that the only logical choice for the Mavericks is to seek the aid of a third team. It may be similar to that Los Angeles Clippers interest in Carmelo Anthony scenario. However, the question is which team could be plausible? The Boston Celtics have emerged as a logical choice once more, mainly because they have a plethora of picks at their disposal, ESPN reported.

The deal for Jahlil Okafor would involve Andrew Bogut who would end up in Boston. Philly would get Amir Johnson, Terry Rozier, and Justin Anderson. Bogut can reinforce the rim protection that Boston would need while the Sixers can broaden their roster with the trio of Johnson, Rozier, and Anderson, freeing up their bottled frontline, Sixer Sense suggested.

With Okafor, the Mavericks get a young promising center that can be mentored by retirement-bound Dirk Nowitzki. Okafor holds promise and such can be sharpened with some help from the German star. A worry would be his off-court antics though Okafor seems to have improved that as of late.
