"The Batman" has quite a history, given that it hasn't even made it to the big screen yet. The upcoming Ben Affleck film was supposedly going to be directed by the actor himself, but in a recent press release, Affleck disclosed that he will in fact not be sitting on the director's chair for the film. He said that playing the masked superhero will require a lot from him and that it would be difficult for him to take on two roles both in front of and behind the camera for it.

The latest news surrounding "The Batman," however, is somewhat good. That's because the Ben Affleck film now finds its directorin "Planet of the Apes" helmer Matt Reeves. The news was reported by Variety, which revealed how Reeves is now in early negotiations to direct the upcoming "The Batman" from Warner Bros. It's a go signal for Reeves, but it seems that they're still ironing out the figures in his paycheck.

The Ben Affleck film will still have the actor's significant creative influence, however, as he is currently working on the script with Geoff Johns. "The Batman" has a looming deadline of 2018, which means that they quickly need to get to work if they still want to meet its yet undisclosed release date. Reeves is currently working on post-production for “War for the Planet of the Apes," which arrives this July.

After that, Reeves will most likely go straight to work on "The Batman," which is set for a 2018 release. Now that the Ben Afflect film finds its director in "Planet of the Apes" helmer Matt Reeves, ironing out the script would be the next logical step before they move on to casting. Reeves wasn't the only one in the running to direct "The Batman," as Collider reported that Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez were also in consideration.
