'Grand Theft Auto 5' Latest News & Update: 'Liberty City' Map Coming Soon Thanks to Modders

Rockstar Games has done its share of perking up things for “Grand Theft Auto 5” through added content. But thanks to modders, PC users can get much more than that with some technical expertise. “Liberty City” is a map that most remember from "GTA IV" and apparently some modders are working on a way to have it on “Grand Theft Auto 5”.

A team named “OpenIV” is currently working on that possibility although its release date remains unknown. Despite its coming, “Grand Theft Auto 5” players should bear in mind that the suggested “Liberty City” map will in no way replace the Los Santos or Blaine County maps. It will appear only across the sea. All this was made possible thanks to the open formats.

According to Eurogamer, interested “Grand Theft Auto 5” players will need a copy of "GTA IV". From there, a converter will do the transformation for it to be played on the current "GTA 5" version. As one can see, some technical know-how may be needed to get this done though minor. The mod will not place “Liberty City” inside GTA V. Seeing “Liberty City” on “Grand Theft Auto 5” should be something to look forward to from gamers, even if it is only by the modding route.

The team has been working on it since the "GTA V" PC release back in 2015, GameSpot reported. For those who may be unfamiliar with “Liberty City”, this is one of the largest maps for “Grand Theft Auto”. That said, some may marvel at how the modding team was able to pull it off. And the straight-forward answer to that is “Because, why not?” when the team was asked about it.

In a brief FAQ, OpenIV answered a couple of simple questions that included playing the mod online. Apparently, it cannot be since Rockstar Games does not allow mods to be played on "GTA Online". Trying to do so will likely result in a game ban.
