Angry Birds game, which was a huge success, paved the way for a movie under the same title. And the game adaptation movie released over the weekend is reportedly breaking box office records worldwide. While there is another week left for its release in the US, the movie is already a huge hit in many countries including Europe and South America.

Angry Birds movie is said to have cashed in $43 million this weekend across South America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. While the film is yet to hit the major film markets like US and China, the success of the film is obvious already.

The film has made around $5.7M in Russia, $2.9M in Mexico, $3.0M in the UK and $2.9M in Germany. With the overall budget of the film being $80M, the movie is expected to fetch a bare minimum of twice or thrice the money spent when it is released in the major film markets.

"Strong critical reception and great word of mouth ignited the box office on Saturday as The Angry Birds Movie displayed huge increases from Friday, suggesting a long and, dare we say it, happy run for the film," said Rovio on the company's website, according to IGN.

It is to be noted that the Angry Birds movie is performing well in many countries around the world in spite of stiff competition from other blockbuster movies like Captain America: Civil War. The success of the Angry Birds film is undoubtedly an encouragement to many upcoming games to film adaptations.

"To that end, the success of The Angry Birds Movie could convince studios to invest more in video game film projects, which in turn could result in higher quality video game films in general," reported Game Rant.

"The success of The Angry Birds Movie should also be encouraging for the various other game studios that are starting to look into film development, like Activision, Ubisoft, and Nintendo. Time will tell if The Angry Birds Movie is a sign of things to come for the game to film adaptations, or if it is just a flash in the pan," added the report.

The movie is set to be released in the US, South Korea, and China on May 20, 2016.
