The organizers of global Vasectomy-athon reportedly will sterilize thousands of men around the world to encourage family planning and lift the resistance from the procedure. 750 doctors around 25 countries have been allocated to perform the procedure. 3,000 volunteers have come up for vasectomy to mark the World Vasectomy Day. Most of these operations are free or being offered at discounted rates to encourage participation. Even co-founder Jonathan Stack said, "In helping to shoulder responsibility for family planning, men become heroes to their partners, to their families and to our future", says Yahoo News.

The ceremony of the World Vasectomy Day was held in its Bali, Indonesia headquarters. The first six men to undergo the operation were presented to the audience in a temple before being taken to the clinic for the procedure. The event was proposed after the campaigners and donors reported that most women in poor countries did not receive adequate contraceptives. According to the findings, at least 4 in 10 pregnancies are unplanned and event organizers believed that even today family planning is left for women to decide, who are the end bearers of the unplanned pregnancies. Even though the procedure of vasectomy is considered safe with no impact on the sex life, even then only 1% of the world population undergoes the procedure. In Indonesia, which is dominated by the Muslim population, the efforts to convince men for vasectomies were hampered when the top Islamic clerical body declared the process as Haram or against the principles of Islamic law, as reported by France 24.

Doug Stein, principal vasectomy doctor, has performed more than 30,000 vasectomies and is responsible for founding the World Vasectomy Day with Stack told the Bali audience, "It seems to be a wonderful option for men who have had as many children as they want". The first time this event was held in Australia in 2013, reports Standard Media
