The much-awaited book "Winds of Winter" may be released when the TV adaptation of the series hits the eight season. Author George R. R. Martin may also have a small cameo in the series.

Martin was recently asked by a fan if he would be interested in playing a small part in "Game of Thrones" Season 8 and the reclusive author replied in the affirmative. This is being taken as a sign to keep the interest of the fans high so that the book can have a big release, according to Winter is Coming.

On the other hand, there were also reports that the book could release on the author's 70th birthday. Martin will be celebrating his 70th birthday in September 2018. The release of the book is expected on his birthday as a gift to his long awaited fans.

Meanwhile, the author has remained silent on "The Winds of Winter" and has not yet announced the release date. In a post on his blog Not a Journal, he did say that he hoped to complete the book in 2017.

The author has been posting snippets of the book on his official website since 2010. In May 2016, he published a piece that features Arianne, princes of Dorne and another character from House of Martell.

The excerpt states that Arianne goes on a journey to the southern coast and provides a description of the various towns that she and other characters pass through. In the small excerpt, Ser Daemon Sand is also featured, where he request the princess to accompany him to Storm's End. Nevertheless, Arianne refuses and states that the mission is hers and not his. There are much more snippets that fans can find on the author's official site.

In another statement, the author mentioned that there would be a major twist in the next installation of "The Song of Ice and Fire" series.  This has led to the further delay in the release of the book.
