Fans have been waiting for a long time to see a glimpse of Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet in any promotional materials for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2". There is little doubt that director James Gunn wants to keep the details about Ego a secret until the sequel premieres later this year.

But is it possible that the real reason is due to the role the character will play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick? Could Ego be the real villain in "GotG V2" instead of Elizabeth Debicki's Ayesha? The trailers for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" have proudly offered a glimpse at almost every major character who will appear in the MCU flick.

The teasers have already introduced Elizabeth Debicki's gold-skinned Ayesha as well as Pom Klementieff as the adorable Mantis. So what is with all the secrecy about Ego if the character simply looks like Kurt Russell with a beard and an awesome black cape? Some believe that Star-Lord's father could be the main villain in the sequel. Some eagle-eyed fans recently came across a promotional photo featuring Kurt Russell as Ego in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" (via Comic Book Movie).

The image certainly confirms the actor's appearance in the sequel, but it still doesn't explain why director James Gunn insists of being secretive about the character. Could Ego actually be the main villain instead to the long-speculated Ayesha? Will Ego betray Star-Lord and his adopted daughter Mantis? There is a possibility that the truth could be hinted on in an upcoming new "GotG V2" trailer this week.

Chris Pratt is set to introduce the new trailer for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" on "Jimmy Kimmel Live". Hopefully, the latest teaser will finally feature Kurt Russell as Ego and perhaps offer a glimpse at the character Sylvester Stallone will portray in the MCU flick. It is also possible that the trailer could show more of Ayesha, who is still expected to be the main villain in the film. "GotG V2" is scheduled for release on May 5.
