A Detroit family is mourning as their nine-year-old daughter, Anyialah Greer, died after tonsillectomy, Now, Sonia Gambrell is seeking for answers about how the procedure went wrong. 

Before the operation, the 27-year-old mom was very nervous as she feared something would go wrong with the surgery. She even considered of postponing  a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for her 9-year-old daughter because of her gut feeling, Detroit News reports.

Despite what she feared, they went to Children's Hospital of Michigan in Troy on December 8. Three hours after the procedure, Anyialah was dead. 

The autopsy reports are still pending and it will take weeks to finish. However, according to medical records that Sonia got, Anyialah could have had an obstructed airway. There could be issues with the anesthesia or an undetected heart condition before she died of cardiac arrest. 

Sonia is now seeking for justice. She is preparing to sue Detroit Medical Center, which owns Children's Hospital with the help of the hired attorney James J. Harrington IV. Sonia claims that the ear, nose and throat specialist who performed the surgery, Dr. Bianca Siegel, should not have discharged her daughter because her health was in danger. 

Sonia's fiance, Dazmon Ellington, 28, persuaded her to go through the operation because of his belief in the capability of the doctors.

"We thought, 'They're doctors. They know what they're doing," Ellington said.

The 28-year-old fiance added that under the federal law, doctors should not discharge the patient if the patient is not yet in a stable condition. He wonders why the specialist considered the girl's condition stable when she died after three hours.

Both couples have lots of questions over the death of Anyialah. The medical records did not explain why the operation lasted so long, but notes that Anyialah was put under anesthesia twice.
