NBA Trade 2017 Latest News & Updates: Cleveland Cavaliers Considering Rajon Rondo, Mario Chalmers After Kyle Korver

The Cleveland Cavaliers made headlines recently, acquiring the services of former Atlanta Hawk shooter Kyle Korver. But even before that, there were several names already linked to the defending champion’s roster shakeup.

The Cavs are reportedly looking for an able back-up to Kyrie Irving as the NBA moves closer to the crucial stages of the season. DeAndre Liggins and Kay Felder alternate to spell the all-star guard. But as one can see, the duo may not be enough. A report from Cleveland.com claims that the Cavs are closely monitoring the Rajon Rondo and Mario Chalmers situation. Rondo has been benched over in Chicago and the belief is that he may be traded soon.

As for Chalmers, the veteran guard has yet to play this season. He is coming off a torn Achilles injury and is a free agent. The Cavs could work out Chalmers at some point and see if he can work himself back to playing form and in time for the post-season wars. Of the two, however, Rondo looms as an interesting prospect. The only problem is the contract the veteran guard carries ($27 million).

A buyout could make things easier, depending on how much Rondo is willing to sacrifice. The problem, however, is the attitude issues that Rondo has had. He has had celebrated skirmishes with past teams so this could be something head coach Tyronn Lue will seriously take into consideration. As it is, monitoring the situation may not necessary mean a signing of either soon, NBC reported.

For now, the Cavs have made a big move with the coming of Korver. He adds more firepower from the outside which should open up the lanes for LeBron James, Kyrie Irving or even Kevin Love. With Korver now gone, the Atlanta Hawks may not be done yet. Paul Millsap and Thabo Sefolosha are also on the trading block so expect more NBA trade deals happening before February.
