NBA Trade Rumors: Given Dallas Mavericks' Disastrous Run, Can DeMarcus Cousin's Arrival Do Them A Favor?

DeMarcus Cousins has been associated with almost all teams in the NBA this season with rumors of the Sacramento Kings planning to part ways with him growing stronger each day. And now, the All-NBA star is being rumored to land with the Dallas Mavericks - the worst team in the league this season with just two wins and 12 losses so far, languishing at the bottom of the Western Conference. Even the last team in the Eastern Conference, the Philadelphia 76ers, have won two matches more than the Mavericks.

According to an iTech Post article, Rick Carlisle's men may trade one player with two superstars from here on for a better 2017.

Many feel the absence of Dirk Nowitzki earlier this season because of injury has seriously hurt the Mavericks but having said that, at 38, the superstar is not getting any younger. Moreover, injuries to a number of top players have also plagued the Mavericks and the management isn't really willing to rush Nowitzki back to the arena just to make up the numbers.

"We're just playing it safe with Dirk. With so many guys out there's no reason to rush him back...When you're missing three of your top six or seven players, that's putting too much pressure on him. We're not going to throw him into the fire without a full boat," Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who is having a tough time, recently told USA Today.

The team in distress thus requires to rebuild itself. SB Nation's Tom Ziller said the Mavericks don't look a side that can win 39 games from here on for a shot at the eighth seed, let go the No. 6 finishing last season which had seen quite a few fans feeling ecstatic as the general forecast for the Mavericks was far worse than that.

"The most striking thing about the Mavericks when you watch them: this team is so bad at creating for each other," Ziller said.

And amid the growing disappointment, the rumor of the Mavs getting Cousins to boost their chances is becoming stronger. Rumors suggest the Mavericks could get Cousins through a four-way deal which also involves Philadelphia 76ers and Atlanta Hawks, said a Yibada report.

Cousins, nevertheless, will be an expensive player to get for the Mavs but one expects them to go to the fullest extent after touching the nadir.

iTech Post said the Mavericks could get Cousins and his Kings colleague Darren Collison in lieu of at least four players in a multi-side deal. Apart from them, it is also rumored that the Mavs could get Nikola Vucevic, the 26-year-old Center of the Orlando Magic. But Vucevic has not been in a good form this year and if he goes to the Mavs, it will rather be a demotion for him.
