NBA Season 2016-17: Lakers To Take On Warriors In Back-To-Back Games This Week

By Shubham Ghosh | Update Date: Nov 22, 2016 07:23 AM EST

This week is big for the 2016-17 NBA season, especially because the two of the most exciting teams - Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers are set to lock their horns twice in the next three days.

Apart from the fact that the twin encounters will feature two talented teams, it will also see Lakers' coach Luke Walton cheering for his boys against the team which he had led to a terrific 39-4 record in the first half of the last season. Though the return of the head coach, Steve Kerr, and the performance of star players like Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Stephen Curry stole the limelight.

This time, Walton is in charge of the Los Angeles Lakers - a young team which was thought to be rebuilding itself this season but has played really well to raise their chance of qualifying for the playoffs. Though they are placed eighth in the Western Conference with seven wins and that many losses which are far lower than the Warriors' second position (12 wins, 2 losses), they are one of the only two teams that have beaten the Warriors this season.

Walton's men defeated the Warriors 117-97 in a home game on November 4 and will look to register a hat-trick of wins against the tough opponents on November 23 and 25. The two games will be played in Oakland and Los Angeles, California.

The Lakers, however, have a game to go before the high-voltage games. They will play Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday  (Nov 22) night and will look to return to their winning ways. Their last victory came a week ago against the Brooklyn Nets and lost back-to-back matches against the San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls despite putting up a fight. Their show against the Spurs even saw the latter's coach Gregg Popovich praising Walton. "I am just so impressed with what he has done with this group," he said, reported San Antonio Express News.

The Lakers have also been given a great service by the likes of Lou Williams, D'Angelo Russell and Nick Young this season.

The Warriors, on the other hand, haven't lost any of the eight games they have played since going down to the Lakers. Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry will be eager to avenge that defeat in the two chances they get this week. Though the Warriors need to pull up their defense game, feel some. "Warriors have regressed overall when it comes to rebounding and interior defense," said this CBS Sports report.

Overall, this week promises to be one of the best for the NBA lovers. The Warriors are tough but the Lakers are fun, too. Either way, whoever wins will deserve every bit of it.
