Is Negan Going To Chop Off Rick’s Hand In Season 7 Of ‘The Walking Dead’ ?

Things are going to get more gruesome with the premier of Season 7 of the post-apocalyptic zombie thriller, 'The Walking Dead.'

A sneak peek released by AMC has thrown a lot of hint on what could possibly follow. In the promo, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is shown warning Negan (Jeffery Dean Morgan) that he would kill him someday. But instead of taking his warning seriously, Negan lectured Rick on the advantage of having a right-handed man and then dragged him to his van with an axe. Speculations are abuzz that the next victim of Negan could be Rick, with his right hand chopped off, going by the promo.

The creator of the show, Rick Kirkman had earlier shared that the season 7 will follow the graphic novel closely. In Kirkman's comic book, Rick's hand was chopped off by the cruel governor, who appeared in Season 3 and 4 of the show. But the series did not follow suit, as it requires a lot of time and money to render special effects to show Andrew Lincoln minus his hand in the series.

Reports suggest that Lincoln himself had campaigned for Rick Grimes to lose a hand but technical problems might have prevented it earlier.

Executive producer and visual effects master Greg Nicotero told TVGuide.com: "With Hershel's leg, it was easy because you could frame it out. With Michael Rooker, when we had Merle, we had to build that elaborate arm prosthetic, just to hide his hand. We revealed it a couple of times."

When quizzed if it was possible now to show Lincoln minus his hand with the technology available today, Nicotero responded, " I would say we have mastered that. With techniques today, it could be done."

Nicotero then swiftly added, " Well...I would just say from a technical aspect it could be done. I'm not saying to worry, or not to worry."

'The Walking Dead' Season 7 premieres on Oct. 27 on AMC.
