Carmelo Anthony Bats For David Blatt To Train Kristaps Porzingis In New York Knicks

The New York Knicks are still clueless on who their next official head coach would be with president Phil Jackson on vacation at his Montana lake house. Interim head coach Kurt Rambis reportedly has the inside track but it seems a bit strange to see now official designation on the part of the “Zen Master”.

With that in mind, the head coaching vacancy remains up for grabs. Rambis may be in the running but he is definitely not the only one. It is likely that the Knicks will address the matter before the 2016 NBA Draft which happens in June.

One name that is reportedly standing out is former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt. Blatt was fired in the regular season in which many believe was a falling out with resident star LeBron James.

While Blatt stands to be a wise choice, there is one angle that many are finding odd. This is with regards to Carmelo Anthony who is one of James’ closest buddies.

Being in the NBA, everyone knows that any player will have to be professional when it comes to working with someone that friends may have failed to hit it well. And this is seen as a possible hindrance in the event that the Knicks get Blatt, particularly because of Anthony.

But a recent report begs to differ, claiming that Anthony is in fact likes the idea of hiring Blatt. Getting him on board to preach the ‘triangle offense’ may be up for debate, something that Jackson wanted before firing former protégé Derek Fisher.

Aside from that, the reason behind Anthony’s push is reportedly because Blatt can help Kristaps Porzingis develop better. Blatt has dominated leagues in Israel and Russia, where he also was coach of the Olympic team, guiding the country to the bronze medal in 2012.

From the looks of it, Anthony feels that the 7-foot-3 Latvian can transition to an all-star faster under the tutelage of Blatt.

If true, that should be a mature move on the part of the all-star forward as he tries to help the Knicks rebuild and come up with a better showing compared to last season.

“For me, man, it’s hard to narrow it down to just one person. I just want to see the proper procedure gone through, the proper process. We give everybody a shot to come in and say what they have to say and see if you like that person or not,” says Melo when asked on his choice for the Knicks next head coach via the NY Post.
