Twitter Character Limit Might Rise To 10K

Twitter is rumoured to be increasing is post's limit from just 140 characters to an amazing 10,000, according to HNGN.

The character limit would thus be the same one that Twitter uses on its direct messages service, says the report, published by Recode,.

Hence, readers would first see the regular 140 characters of a tweet in a timeline, but when they click on a post, they will be able to see the bigger post.

This follows the news that Twitter saw poor user growth and a weak forecast in the third quarter. It brought the shares down sharply by more than 2 percent to $22.04, which was much below its first public offering price of $25, reported USA Today.

The announcement hit the excitement following the return of co-founder Jack Dorsey. He had been the interim CEO before he was appointed as CEO last October.

Dorsey's is trying to stoke the growth by users. "I've challenged our teams to look beyond assumptions about what makes Twitter the best play to share what's happening. I'm confident our ideas will result in the service that's far easier to understand and much more powerful," Dorsey said during the company's third-quarter conference call.
